News from Edinburgh Zoo
Hi everyone – it’s Kenny here with an update from our friends at Edinburgh Zoo!
If you haven’t already heard, our giant panda neighbours at the zoo could be expecting a new arrival very soon.
Both Penny and I are so happy for Sweetie (Tian Tian) and Sunshine (Yang Guang) as this is such exciting news, and we’re definitely keeping our flippers crossed that everything works out well for them this time.
In other news, we are happy to announce that the penguin chicks at Edinburgh Zoo are doing very well.
For anyone that doesn’t know, us penguins need oily feathers as they keep us warm and buoyant in the water. Penguin chicks are born with downy feathers and are protected by their parents, as they aren’t able to swim yet.
When the chicks are too big to be fed by their parents or start to lose their downy feathers, they are moved into a crèche. While in the crèche, the chicks are encouraged to develop their swimming abilities and as a result, their confidence will quickly grow.
A number of the penguin chicks have now moved into the crèche and are doing very well indeed. Their confidence is coming on in leaps and bounds, and we can’t wait to see the chicks out and about at Penguins Rock!
Love, Kenny x
